City of Amadora

Amadora is a Local Authority whose powers are statutory, with its own competencies in the fields of urban and public spaces, education, social development, environment, culture, and sport, with the mission of providing services to citizens. The four major strategic objectives of the Municipality for 2020 were: strengthen social and territorial cohesion; strengthen the Municipality’s competitiveness; promote environmental sustainability; modernize municipal management, promote the quality of services provided and the approach of the city council to citizens.

The political bodies and elected representatives are the Mayor and 10 Councillors; Municipal Assembly, with President and 33 Municipal Members.

There are eight administrative departments: Education and Social Development; Modernization and ICT; Environment and Urban Services; Housing and Urban Requalification; Urban Administration; Municipal Works (Construction); Financial; General Administration.

The Municipality of Amadora is in Lisbon Metropolitan Area and despite being a small territory with 23,79Km2, is one of the most populous municipalities of Portugal, with 171.719 inhabitants (2021 Preliminary Census data), which reflects its high population density. The accessibility and proximity to the Portuguese capital Lisbon, are pull factors that contribute to the great social and cultural diversity featuring the municipality.
