Jesuit Refugee Service is an NGO that belongs to the Society of Jesus, in Portugal since 1992. JRS seeks to Accompany, Serve, and Advocate the cause of refugees and forcibly displaced people. In Portugal, our main work is with irregular migrants that seek social, legal, medical support, as well as job opportunities and training for the most wanted job areas. JRS also has a shelter for migrant people in homeless situation and is also present in the only detention centre in Portugal that is outside of the airport. Specifically, for refugees, JRS has a shelter in Évora and also a partnership with Lisbon Municipality on another temporary shelter in Lisbon. JRS coordinates the Refugee Support Platform, a civil society platform of hosting organisations. Finally, JRS has also an Advocacy Office and a Communication Office that work together to create awareness of these situations.
